Transport level error - The specified network name is no longer available

Transport level error - The specified network name is no longer available

Based on the error message, TM Master v2 has lost connection with the SQL server.

There are many different reasons why this error could occur, and it is most likely related to your SQL Server/Network, not TM Master V2.


When you receive this error, wait a few seconds and try again.

If the problem persists, please contact your IT department regarding the server and/or network.


Here are some possible causes/solutions for this error:


The SQL Server Browser Service is not running

- At the SQL Server, click the Start button. Choose Run and type Services.msc and click OK.

- In the list of services, find SQL Server Browser.

- Double-click that item and make sure the Startup type is "Automatic" and that the Service Status is "Started".

- If the SQL Browser is not started, then click the Start button to start the service and click OK.


TCP/IP Connections are not enabled for SQL Server

- At the SQL Server, go to Start / All Programs / Microsoft SQL Server 200x / Configuration Tools / SQL Server Configuration Manager.

- Select SQL Server 200x Network Configuration / Protocols for .

- Verify that TCP/IP is "Enabled".

- If the status is "Disabled", right click and select Enable.


Named Pipes are not enabled for SQL Server

- At the SQL Server, go to Start / All Programs / Microsoft SQL Server 200x / Configuration Tools / SQL Server Configuration Manager.

- On the left-hand pane, expand SQL Server 200x Network Configuration and then click Protocols for .

- In the right-hand pane, verify that Named Pipes is "Enabled". If it is not, right-click on Named Pipes and choose Enable.

- On the left-hand pane, expand SQL Native Client Configuration and then click Client Protocols.

- In the right-hand pane, verify that Named Pipes is "Enabled". If it is not, right-click on Named Pipes and choose Enable.


Note: After enabling TCP/IP and Named Pipes, stop and restart the SQL Instance and the SQL Browser.


If you are using firewall/antivirus please make sure that that SQL Server and Browser are added as exceptions.


To add SQL Server and Browser as exceptions to windows firewall:

- Open Windows Firewall by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Security, and then clicking Windows Firewall.

- In the left pane, click Allow a program through Windows Firewall. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

- If the program is missing from the Programs and Services: list, click on "Allow another program..." button and browse to the directory for the program executable file, then click OK.


SQL Browser directory (on my computer, might not be that same on yours):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared


SQL Server directory (on my computer):

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.TEROMARINE\MSSQL\Binn
